Grab handle fitting instructions

Thank you for purchasing one of our New Zealand-designed and manufactured products, and for supporting local business, rather than imported products. 

Preparing for installation

Remove the blind and A- Pillar plastic covers.

Refer to the manufacturer's blind manual for removing the cover. Fiat and the motorhome manufacturers produce many different models; we cannot cover all motorhome brands and models.

• Remove the rubber door seal from the A-pillar. The door seal usually holds the A-pillar cover tight against the A-pillar. Then unclip the plastic covers that hide the metal frame.

 Note: Some models have an additional black plastic packer. Be careful not to lose these packers.

Some models have little speakers built into the plastic covers. Be careful not to damage the little speaker cables.

Installing the handle

First, using a riv-nut gun, install the supplied hexagonal riv-nuts onto the A pillar of the Fiat factory, as shown in the picture below. Do the same to the second hole, 240mm lower down the pillar.

Take care when installing the driver’s side to ensure the cables are relocated and not damaged during installation.

Bolt the handle top and bottom onto the Riv-nuts. Note the location of the bolts in the picture below. Using a pop-rivet gun, install the supplied rivet in the lower racket only (the top bracket only requires 1 bolt)

Refitting the plastic trim

Temporarily locate the plastic trim. You cannot fit the trim because the handle is now preventing the trim from going back into place. You will need to carefully scribe and trim the plastic around the handle. Ensure the top locator pins of the trim line up with the locator holes in the A pillar. Using a pencil, mark the location of the new handle on the plastic trim, then make the handle cutout, using a Dremel, Fret saw or Multi-tool. Do this in small increments, checking regularly to ensure you don't remove too much and thus maintain a tight fit. See image below

Ensure enough material has been removed so the cover will clip into its original position with no tension on the plastic cover; if it is too tight under tension, it might crack over time.

Once you are satisfied with your workmanship, the blind covers can be refitted, and the door rubber seal reinstalled.

Carefully tuck the rubber boot seal under the grab handle if the rubber is not transitioning nicely; in some cases, removing a little more plastic above and below the bracket will resolve the issue.

Remove any remaining pencil marks, test blinds, and clean up.
