RV Electro magnetic latch (12 volt)
This 12-volt electromagnetic latch is mostly used for keeping drawers shut on motorhomes, but they have many applications,
The latches are fitted under or behind the drawer and wired so the lock engages when the engine is running. This prevents the drawers from flying open when driving.
Wiring tips
Find a 12-volt source activated when the vehicle engine is running, called a D-Plus feed.
Below are a few locations where you might find a D-plus.
- You can run a cable from the ignition at the dashboard.
- The D-Plus is usually found at the 3-way fridge in a factory-built motorhome. It allows the fridge to run on 12 volts when driving.
- If the vehicle has electric steps, it should have a D-Plus source to ensure the step folds away when the engine starts.
- If the motorhome has an automatic satellite dish installed, it should have a D-Plus source to shut down the dish when the engine is started.
Connect the electromagnetic locks to a suitable feed on the D-plus so that the drawers and cabinets are always locked when the vehicle is running.
This is a 12-volt electromagnetic lock; if you have a 24-volt vehicle, you can fit a step-down converter on the locking circuit or wire them up in pairs or series to avoid damaging the electromagnets by over-voltage.
