America Caravan handbrake conversion kit
If you are importing an American caravan, the vehicle must comply with New Zealand regulations. For the WOF or COF, for the gas, and for the electrical system.
Most American caravans come into the country without a handbrake because a handbrake is not required in the USA. To get a WOF or COF in NZ, you will need to convert the existing electrical brakes to mechanical brakes on the drums when parked up.
We regularly convert US caravans and supply everything you need in a kit to complete the conversion.
You will have to remove the wheels, drums, and existing drum plate assembly, which will be replaced with a new drumplate assembly with handbrake levers. The levers are attached to cables that run to the tow hitch, where the handbrake ratchet arm is mounted. This assembly has everything you will need to make your own conversion, including instructions.
